My name is Stefan Schmitt (Dipl.-Ing. FH, equivalent to B.Sc.) and already in the final year of my civil engineer studies, in 1989, I joined Lahmeyer International/Tractebel Engineering (TEG). Then after studies, I was firmly employed in TEG's Department for Hydropower and Hydraulic Structures Design as a Design Engineer.
Over the years I gained experience in working on many dam, hydropower, pumped storage and water transfer projects in Germany and overseas. From starting with LI, I spent more than 15 years abroad, mostly in Africa and Asia. The last projects, mostly of large scale, saw me in the role of a Chief Design Engineer, leading design teams on long-term assignments.
In 2020, I was entrusted with leading the Department for Hydropower and Hydraulic Structures Design.
Storage and transfer of water and its use for power generation have always fascinated me – exactly the elements needed to improve peoples's livelihood.
